Give your clients the
key to a
perfectly fond memory;
bring Kamala Appel, a.k.a. "the key" in KEA Productions,
onboard.
I have been a
formal educator and taught K-12 as well as at the college
level. Now I educate people through film on the web and on traditional
(old school) venues. I love everything related to the web, broadband,
and the growing mobile venues. I am fortunate to be involved with
setting the standards as part of the Producers Guild of America, New
Media Council and spend time traveling back and forth to LA and my
awesome homeland of the SF Bay Area.
I love producing documentaries because it gives me a chance to learn
and then challenge myself further by trying to figure out how to teach
someone else what I just learned. My passion, as you might have
guessed, is anything and everything related to animals. My goal is to
continue to help organizations that help animals by teaching people how
to use video production and new media marketing tactics to increase
outreach efforts. I am also available to teach ecotourists how to
record a perfect memory of their travels (because without video who can
remember anything? I know it helps jog my memory).
When I watch footage from my first feature of the animals I worked
with,
I can't help but smile as I recall the lemur who
jumped on my head as another claimed my tripod as his own; or the
cheetah who attacked me and tore up my layers of jackets (thank
goodness it was cold) ; or the elephant seal pup who looked at me
imploringly to help him bust out of the holding area and return to the
ocean... So many memories, I feel fortunate to be able to remember them
perfectly at any time and now all of your clients can too- Let me show
them how or, if you prefer, I can record the sights and sounds of the
experience for them to take home.

BIO
Kamala Appel earned a BA from Yale University and an MA from
USC’s School of Cinema Television.
Kamala worked at
some of Hollywood’s top companies, including Universal
Studios, ICM, and Sundance, before she started her own award-winning
production company, KEA Productions. She is a member of the Producers
Guild of America and continues to receive recognition for her
documentary and web videos. She has appeared on radio, television, and
the web, all in a quest to educate business owners about new
technologies impacting the media space. Kamala works as a hired gun,
shooting with a video camera instead of a rifle. As a speaker, Kamala
teaches people how to shoot quality video in a spontaneous setting that many travellers encounter.
Anyone who has worked with animals or in a nature knows that it
doesn’t get more spontaneous (unscripted) than that.
